Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

Belonging Matters: we're going purple for Mental Health Awareness Week

There's something special about walking into your local and hearing your name. Maybe your barista already knows your order, or maybe it's just a friendly chat while you wait. Those small moments of connection matter more than you might think.

That's the idea behind this year's Mental Health Awareness Week, running 12–18 October. The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand's theme is Belonging Matters, with the whakataukī "Ko au ko koe, ko koe ko au" – I am you, and you are me.

Proud Champions of the Mental Health Foundation since 2019

We first teamed up with the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand in 2019. Seven years on, we're proud to be a Proud Champion of the Mental Health Foundation NZ. Every dollar our guests help raise goes towards a future where everyone in Aotearoa can enjoy good mental health and wellbeing.

We couldn't do it without you. Thank you to everyone who has popped a coin in the tin, grabbed a coffee on Purple Day, or simply checked in on a mate.

Purple Friday - Friday 16 October

On Friday 16 October, 50c from every hot drink you buy at Coffee Culture goes straight to the Mental Health Foundation.

Our teams will be dressed head to toe in purple, so come in, grab your usual and say kia ora. Your morning flat white or afternoon hot chocolate makes an EXTRA difference that day.

More ways to help this October

  • Enjoy a slice of Cake of the Month - 50c from every COM slice sold in October goes to the Foundation.
  • Add a $1 donation - just ask at the counter when you order. No cash needed.
  • Pop a coin in the tin - look for our purple donation tins in store.
  • Reach out to someone - learn a new name, check in on a friend, or bring someone along for a coffee. Small acts of connection are what Belonging Matters is all about.
  • Find out more about Mental Health Awareness Week, and events happening near you, at mhaw.nz.

See you in purple on the 16th!
